From Beta to Better: Student-Driven Insights into the AI Research Assistant

Session Information

This presentation highlights a partnership with CSUN students to evaluate the Ex Libris AI Research Assistant's role in supporting academic research and enhancing the OneSearch discovery layer. Grounded in the Student as Partner (SAP) approach, the project integrates real-world applications into coursework, enabling students to test the tool, document their experiences through journals and surveys, and provide actionable feedback. The data collected will culminate in a detailed recommendation report for Ex Libris. By actively engaging students as collaborators, this initiative fosters critical awareness, practical experience in AI and UX, and inclusivity in technology development. The project aligns with CSUN's mission to provide innovative, student-driven learning opportunities while supporting its commitment to diversity. Attendees will gain insight into incorporating user feedback into technology development, fostering inclusive education, and leveraging experiential learning to drive meaningful improvements in library systems.
