Leveraging Primo VE to Showcase Local Faculty Publications

Session Information

This presentation demonstrates how Oregon State University Libraries utilizes Primo VE's features to promote faculty-authored publications through a multi-faceted discovery approach. Our catalogers added a standard message to locally authored books in Alma's 590 Local Note field. We developed three integrated solutions in Primo VE to promote local authors with this source: creating a searchable local field, a dynamic collection discovery interface, and targeted resource recommendations. This technical workflow enhances the visibility of institutional scholarship while providing seamless access to faculty works. We'll explore the practical implementation steps, including configuring local fields, establishing an Alma collection from the logic set, publishing and syncing the collection to Primo, and creating resource recommendations for local authors. The session will provide attendees with actionable strategies to highlight their institution's scholarly output using existing Primo VE functionality, fostering greater awareness of faculty contributions and strengthening connections between library collections and institutional research.
