After twelve years of using DSpace as our institutional repository, Mercer University Libraries decided to modernize our digital infrastructure and migrate to Alma Digital late last year. This migration, however, was not just about replacing our digital repository-it was also about improving our workflows, better integrating our archives with existing library infrastructure, and increasing access and discoverability for our patrons. In this presentation, we will discuss why we chose Alma Digital over other similar services to advocate for our Archives and Special Collections and to ensure long term sustainability of our digital assets. We will detail the problems we overcame and choices we made during the migration, including key features, integrations, and customizations we implemented to improve access and availability of our digitized materials for our patrons. We will conclude with a brief look at our future plans as well as suggestions for others interested in adopting Alma Digital.
