Artificial intelligence presents both unparalleled opportunities and extraordinary risks for academic libraries. To effectively lead the modern research enterprise, it is imperative that libraries harness the transformative power of AI to advance research, teaching, and learning while simultaneously navigating challenges related to academic integrity, intellectual property, data privacy, bias, and equity. In this session, we will discuss approaches to responsible and ethical AI integration developed at Rutgers University and University of Southern California. Topics will include developing AI principles and governance policies, establishing frameworks for assessing and implementing AI technology, building learning communities to share knowledge and information about AI, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop practical AI applications.
