So you're hiring a new Systems Librarian....

Session Information

How do you prepare for hiring a position that no one else in the organization completely knows how to do? How do you help them get up to speed on what they need to know to be the authoritative, second tier tech support for the library systems and discovery platform? Obviously, every hiring situation is a little different and each hire will need different training and information, but come join me to explore some ways to be prepared for this impactful change. I myself was hired after 20 mumble years in public libraries to be the systems librarian for a large public university library system. In my case neither I nor they knew what I didn't know and needed to know. It's very easy to hire someone and say "here are the links for the vendor training information, good luck" but it's probably never the best approach. Let's strategize!
